Brothers and sisters in Christ, we have before us yet another chilling example of where our society's moral compass is pointing. The grievous attack on Melissa Mauldin by Jin Xiong, a man emboldened by a failing judicial system, is exactly the sort of wickedness that festers when righteousness is abandoned and the rod of discipline is put aside (Proverbs 13:24). Melissa's ordeal is a clarion call to the consequences of a legal system that, in its vain pursuit of leniency for the sake of false compassion, allows the wicked to walk free among the innocent. The Bible is clear that authorities are servants of God, avengers who carry out God's wrath on the wrongdoer (Romans 13:4), yet here we see a man allowed to spill the blood of God's children repeatedly. How can this be? Herein lies the result of liberal judges forsaking God's call for justice and embracing a culture that rather coddles than confronts sin. This is not mercy; this is abject failure. It is a failure to protect the innocent, a failure to uphold the sanctity of life, and ultimately, a failure to heed Divine instruction. God’s Word tells us those who show no mercy will be judged without mercy, and it is high time we demand a return to Biblical principles that would secure the peace and safety of our people (James 2:13). For a man like Jin Xiong to have assaulted and injured others before, only to be set loose to strike again, is indicative of a system that has lost its way. A Christian nation must stand up for the defenseless and ensure that justice is served. Melissa Mauldin's voice should be heard loud and clear: The system meant to protect her and prevent such sinful acts has abandoned its duty. I implore my fellow believers, let us not be idle. Raise your voices for justice in your communities, demand that your leaders uphold the laws that protect the innocent. Speak out against policies that prioritize the release of violent offenders under the guise of reform over the safety of abiding citizens. We must not be complicit by silence. And let us also pray fervently for Melissa's healing, for the strength of the victims of similar crimes, and for the repentance of those who commit such sins. May God grant wisdom to our authorities, that they may recognize their God-given responsibility to punish evil and defend the good. In the words of the prophet Isaiah, "Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow" (Isaiah 1:17). Reject the progressive rhetoric that undermines Biblical justice, and let us be fearless in proclaiming the enduring truth that only a return to God's law can restore order and safety to our nation. Amen.
