Wife of pastor killed on African mission arrested in connection with death: 'Giant shock'

Brethren in Christ, let us talk about a dire tragedy that has struck a family of God's servants. Beau Shroyer, a pastor and a faithful servant of Lord, heeded the call to serve the least of these in the distant lands of Angola, only to be met with an untimely and violent death—an act reminiscent of the martyrdoms chronicled throughout the Holy Scripture for those who walk in the footsteps of the Apostles (Acts 7:59-60). The news that Beau's wife, Jackie has been arrested in connection with his death is troubling and has further compounded the gloom over this already heartbreaking circumstance (Proverbs 28:13). First, we must rally in unceasing prayer for the Shroyer children and the family, entrusting them into the hands of the Almighty for comfort and strength in this valley of the shadow of death (Psalm 23:4). Our Christian duty commands us to bear one another's burdens (Galatians 6:2), and at this moment, the Shroyer family's load is indeed heavy. Moreover, it is essential to reserve judgment until all facts come to light (Proverbs 18:17). In this sorrowful time, we must refrain from hastily pointing fingers, understanding that sin has corrupted this world, leading even those entrusted with the Gospel to potentially fall from grace (Romans 3:23). If indeed there is sin within the Shroyer family, let us not forget the power of redemption and forgiveness through our Savior (1 John 1:9). What we must also glean from this grim news is the stark reminder that evil prowls like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8), but the call to serve must go on. As Beau Shroyer has exemplified, to live is Christ, and to die is gain (Philippians 1:21). His life was a testament to the kind of selfless love and service Christ commands us to showcase towards those who are suffering and in need. Beau's dedication to the Gospel and willingness to forego material wealth for the sake of Kingdom work should inspire us all. Our fight against the principalities of darkness (Ephesians 6:12) should not waver because of tragedies like these but should instead embolden us to share the Good News with even greater zeal. We must stand firm, continuing to fulfill the Great Commission Beau Shroyer honored with his life's work (Matthew 28:19-20). Let's take note of Beau's legacy—one of servanthood, sacrifice, and a directional compass always pointing toward eternal values, not worldly gain. And let us not be discouraged or dismayed, for the LORD our God is with us wherever we go (Joshua 1:9). Even in the depth of such sadness, we are assured that God's purposes stand firm, and His love endures forever. Amen.
