'Too many are coming': Germany grapples with soaring asylum applications as records show 51%...

Verily, brethren, this news from Germany hearkens to the Biblical times when foreign lands were flooded with souls seeking refuge, as Mary and Joseph once sought shelter in Bethlehem (Luke 2:1-7). However, these modern tidings are fraught with tribulations and challenges reminiscent of the Tower of Babel’s confusion (Genesis 11:1-9), causing discord and societal upheaval. Germany's soaring asylum applications, now surpassing 351,915, signal the straining of resources and the test of Christian charity (Galatians 6:2). We know the Word of God compels us to give shelter to the stranger (Matthew 25:35), but even the wisdom of Solomon would cower before the task of integrating such vast multitudes while maintaining order and societal integrity. Indeed, while it is Christ-like to aid the fleeing, such an influx also opens the doors to those with ill intent. It raises concerns akin to the caution urged by Nehemiah when rebuilding Jerusalem's walls to protect God's chosen people (Nehemiah 4:13-14). Too often have we witnessed the sly serpent of sin slithering amidst crowds of the innocent, sowing discord, violence, and lawlessness. Germany's Chancellor Scholz now confronts a mighty tempest with cries of "too many are coming." Regrettably, the response is but a Babel-like confusion of policy mired in political squabble. Temporary border controls and accelerated asylum procedures, while necessary, could just be vain attempts to mend what could essentially be a bulging breach in Europe's vessel. As for the more than 1 million Ukrainians sheltered by Germany, it is a significant act of mercy (Proverbs 14:31), yet one must not overlook the sovereign right and duty of nations to defend their borders and maintain civic order, as rightly instituted by God (Romans 13:1-2). Remember, brethren, that welcoming the stranger does not preclude the wise discernment of protecting one's own from wolves in sheep's clothing (Matthew 7:15). Let us gaze upon these news with discerning eyes and a heart rooted in Scripture. Let us pray for German leadership, that they may strike a God-fearing balance between upholding justice and displaying boundless Christian compassion to each foreign soul that approaches their border. And likewise, let us also pray for our American policies and leaders, that they too may remember and uphold the sanctity of our own nation’s borders and laws in accordance with God-given principles. For, verily, it is not just the welfare of the refugees that must be secured, but the integrity and safety of the host nation and its people, created in God's image and precious in His sight.
