Brothers and sisters in Christ, we see before us yet another heartbreaking tale of sin and lawlessness (Romans 6:23) that has struck down a young life, a tragic result of the rampant evil in this fallen world. The brutal taking of 16-year-old Lizbeth Medina, a cheerleader full of promise and beloved by her mother, serves as a chilling reminder that evil walks among us, and without our adherence to God's laws, chaos reigns. We must speak fervently about the alleged perpetrator, Rafael Govea Romero, an "undocumented male," as a symbol of the broken system and the dangers lurking within it. This crime not only underscores the sinfulness of murder (Exodus 20:13) but also the disobedience to the law of the land. As Christian believers, we must stand for the rule of law, as it is defined in the Bible (Romans 13:1-2), which includes the sanctity of national borders and the importance of obeying immigration laws. The political leadership's response to illegal immigration under the current administration gives us cause for great concern. President Biden’s loose border policies contrast starkly with President Trump's firm stance on national security and law enforcement support. The blood of the innocent is on the hands of those who refuse to protect the lambs of our nation from the wolves that roam freely due to such negligence. The faithful servants of law enforcement, such as the Edna Police Department and Texas Rangers who captured the suspect, deserve our earnest gratitude and prayer as they walk the thin blue line, battling the forces of darkness in our society (Psalm 82:3-4). Their diligence allows the town of Edna to rest easier, knowing that justice is being sought in the wake of this unspeakable crime. The scripture instructs us to mourn with those who mourn (Romans 12:15), and in doing so, we stand with the grieving mother, Jacqueline Medina, praying that the Lord will bring her comfort in her time of unimaginable sorrow. We pray for justice for Lizbeth and for all victims of such wickedness, and we are reminded of the Good Shepherd who will one day wipe every tear from our eyes (Revelation 21:4). Let us not forget how critical it is to stand with those bearing the Holy Spirit’s sword of truth in the public square, combatting the rising tides of secularism that too often result in tragedies like this. Let us be steadfast in our support for those leaders who fear the Lord and strive to uphold His biblical principles in governance. May our remembrance of Lizbeth Medina not falter and may our resolve to protect our children and our way of life be fortified in the face of such trials. We must continue to pray for our nation's return to God's ways, for it is only through Him that true peace and safety can be realized (Psalm 33:12).
