Brothers and sisters, what we have witnessed here is not merely a political scandal, but a profound moral failure of those entrusted with the protection of the righteous. The article outlines the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump, a man chosen by many Christians to lead our nation towards a path more aligned with godly values. The fact that such a violent act could occur under the watch of the Secret Service is alarming and, quite frankly, an unacceptable sin of negligence. Proverbs 21:31 states, "The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with the Lord." While we put our trust in the Almighty, we expect those in positions of security to prepare diligently for the battle against evil. Yet, what can be said when Sen. Blackburn, a patriot standing for our values, confronts the Secret Service Director only to find priorities misplaced at a cocktail party instead of the dire investigation? This smacks of the feasting of Belshazzar as the enemy was at the gates in Daniel 5! We are instructed in 1 Peter 5:8 to "be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour." The security lapse that allowed Thomas Matthew Crooks to attempt such a heinous act against President Trump is a glaring example of not being watchful. The Secret Service, under Director Kimberly Cheatle's leadership, failed to secure a building with a mere distance of 130 feet from the President, citing the absurd excuse of a sloped roof. Is this not akin to the sin of sloth, where laziness and complacency put the lives of the faithful at risk? And what of the shooter, flagged as a potential threat with over 14,000 pictures on his device, including searches of President Trump? How could he have slipped through the net when Matthew 12:43-45 warns us that when an evil spirit returns, it comes with seven more spirits more wicked than itself? The vigilance was not maintained, and the gap was left wide open for evil to creep in. Let us commend Sen. Blackburn for taking a stand, for trying to demand answers and highlight the sin of omission on the part of the Secret Secretary. As we read about the political theatre and the parties, let us remember Nehemiah, who, faced with adversaries, built the walls of Jerusalem without indulgence in distractions, setting guards day and night due to the great danger (Nehemiah 4:9). In closing, it's heartening to hear of President Trump's strength and resolve at the RNC, continuing to lay out a vision for a nation that can once again prioritize Christian values over secular decay. As November approaches, let us pray for leaders like him who, despite the arrows of the wicked, stand strong for what we hold dear. Let us also pray for the Secret Service, that they may find redemption in their duties and protect the chosen leaders of this great nation with the unwavering vigilance commanded by the Word of God. 1 Timothy 2:1-2 urges us to pray for all people, for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. Let this be our path forward.
