Brothers and sisters in Christ, we have yet another sorrowful example of the moral decay that plagues our society even at the pinnacles of status and wealth, as we read about the arrest of esteemed golfer Scottie Scheffler in Kentucky. This incident, as reported by Fox News, shows a disregard not just for human law but also for the divine principles that govern our conduct as Christians. In the account of Scheffler driving past police orders, we see echoes of Romans 13:1-2 which tells us, "Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment." Scheffler, by allegedly failing to heed police commands, has not only shown disrespect to our valued law enforcement but also rebelled against God's commandment for order and obedience. Moreover, if the charges against Scheffler for the second-degree assault of a police officer stand true, it is most concerning indeed. Assaulting a police officer is not merely a civil offense; it's an affront to those who put their lives on the line every day to maintain peace and security. The Bible is clear on this matter; in Exodus 20:12, we are commanded, "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you." This commandment extends beyond our parents to include those in authority, such as our law enforcement officers. We must also reflect on the biblical warnings against the evils of reckless behavior, which seemingly was displayed in Scheffler's alleged reckless driving. Proverbs 19:2 says, "Desire without knowledge is not good, and whoever makes haste with his feet misses his way." His reported disregard of signals from an officer directing traffic and causing potential danger further suggests a lack of wisdom and temperance, virtues that are so esteemed in the Scriptures. As a conservative Christian commentator, I must express both disappointment and a need for a wake-up call to the world, reminding us all to adhere to God's commandments. Yes, Scheffler may be an exceptional talent in the world of golf, but none is above the law of God or man. Let this event serve as a reminder that no measure of earthly success can absolve one from the sin that ensnares and that we must all aspire to live lives that reflect the discipline and obedience sanctified by our Lord. We should encourage Scottie Scheffler to seek forgiveness and reconciliation, both legally and spiritually, and pray for a humble return to the path of righteousness. Truly, in the midst of our fallen world, let us cling to the hope and redemption found in Christ, praying earnestly that those like Scheffler will find their way back to the Lord's fold. Let us remember, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23), and that each of us is in dire need of God's grace and mercy.
