Brothers and sisters in Christ, as we digest the harrowing news of a school shooting in Russia, let us first recognize the profound tragedy that has unfolded – a life cut short and others scarred forever. The heart breaks for the children and families affected by such senseless violence, which echoes the darkness that pervades this fallen world. We find ourselves, once more, witnessing a tragic and abhorrent event – a young soul, a Russian teen girl, turned to a most grievous sin: murder (Exodus 20:13). What possesses a child to take up arms against her peers? It is a question we must grapple with, but the answer lies rooted deeply in the moral decay societies across the globe are facing. The decay is a glaring symbol of the distance humanity has strayed from God’s grace and teachings. The incident in Bryansk becomes yet another dire warning bell, sounding the alarm on the importance of instilling Christian values and moral fortitude in our youth. If they do not have the armor of God (Ephesians 6:11), they stand vulnerable to the devil's schemes, which include violence and despair. Moreover, let us examine the role of the parents, for it is they who are charged first and foremost with the spiritual guidance of their children. How did this teen come to possess a shotgun? Reports claim it was her father brought in for questioning. The sacred scripture affirms, "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it" (Proverbs 22:6). Are we, as parents, equipping our children with the wisdom and love of Christ, or are we leaving them unarmed against the moral vacuity that tempts them into corruption and sin? Now, more than ever, as the world grapples with violence, we must turn back to our Lord and Savior. We must reject the pathways that lead to destruction, and instead follow the footsteps of Christ, who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6). In these dark times, let our light shine through prayer, through compassion, and through unwavering dedication to the values He taught us. As we condemn this atrocity, let us take up the mantle and fight the good fight, to elevate our moral standards and return to the biblical principles that can heal our world. We must stand together as a community of believers, forever vigilant in our faith, to ensure that such wickedness finds no fertile ground to take root. In our prayers, let us ask the Almighty for comfort for the victims, for justice to be served, and for a revival in the hearts of all people – so that they may embrace life, eschew sin, and seek redemption through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
