Brothers and sisters in Christ, we are witnessing a time where the wickedness of humanity is on full display in the streets of Dublin, Ireland. The recent events of violence and chaos, ignited by a knife attack that has left innocent children harmed, is a grim reminder of the sinful nature that pervades our broken world (Romans 3:23). The Lord has taught us that lawlessness will abound, and the love of many will grow cold (Matthew 24:12), and truly, we are seeing this prophetic insight unfold before our very eyes. The rioters setting ablaze a police vehicle and attacking officers of the peace are acts of rebellion not just against earthly authority, but against the order that God Himself has ordained (Romans 13:1-2). Such defiance is symptomatic of a society that has turned its back on the Lord, neglecting the command to love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:39). The throwing of fireworks and bottles is emblematic of hearts that hurl malice and strife rather than seeking the fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). In these actions, do we not see the hand of the adversary, sowing discord, and wrenching humanity further from the path of righteousness? The perpetrators are instruments in the enemy's ploy to incite turmoil, to divide, and to lead people into deeper darkness, away from the saving grace of our Redeemer (1 Peter 5:8). The Garda Commissioner's call for calm is akin to a clarion call for repentance, a reminder that we must turn from wicked ways and seek the Lord's face (2 Chronicles 7:14). As conservative Christians, it is our duty to champion the sanctity of life and to uphold the God-given dignity of each individual, especially the vulnerable and the young such as those injured in this horrendous attack. The response of the Irish Justice Minister, though secular in nature, echoes biblical truths. We cannot tolerate the malevolent actions of those who would spread division and harm. The Scriptures instruct us to have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them (Ephesians 5:11). While the law will deal with the perpetrators, we know that there is a divine judgment that awaits all who do not repent (Revelation 20:12-15). To those brave souls who intervened to halt the violence and to aid the afflicted, we extend our heartfelt gratitude. In them, we are reminded of the Good Samaritan, who did not pass by on the other side but instead rendered aid to the one in need (Luke 10:25-37). Let their courage serve as an example to us all, to not be bystanders in the face of evil, but to act justly and to love mercy (Micah 6:8). Fellow believers, let us pray fervently for the victims, for their physical healing and emotional restoration. But let us also pray for the assailant and for those who have participated in the riots. They, too, need the transformative power of Christ's love (1 Timothy 2:1-4). May this tragedy serve as a wake-up call, a sobering reminder that without God, there is no peace, no order, and no hope. Let us be the light in this darkness (Matthew 5:14-16), drawing all nearer to the truth of the Gospel, that they may find forgiveness and salvation in our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
