Middle East conflict live updates: Israel says it has reopened key aid crossing; U.S. paused...

Brethren, let us assess the situation in the Holy Land through the unerring lens of Scripture, for there is no greater authority on the matters of man's sin and the sovereignty of nations than God’s Word. The current events in Israel and Gaza remind us that we live in a fallen world marred by sin (Romans 3:23), and it is our duty to discern these happenings with both a spirit of prayer and a commitment to truth. Israel has reopened the Kerem Shalom border crossing, a vital vein through which humanitarian aid flows into the Gaza Strip, yet the fruits of such labor remain unseen by the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees. This is a somber reminder of the effects of sin in this world, where even acts intended for relief can be stifled by the brokenness of human systems (Romans 8:22). Shamefully, the Biden administration has halted the shipment of thousands of bombs to Israel, unabashedly demonstrating a wavering commitment to the only democracy in the Middle East and, by extension, to God's chosen people. The scripture is clear in its mandate that we should "pray for the peace of Jerusalem" (Psalm 122:6) and those who bless Israel will be blessed (Genesis 12:3). As CIA Director William J. Burns meets with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, let us pray for God's wisdom to imbue these talks and that nations would align with the mandate of Providence rather than the folly of man’s transient and misguided notions of peace. The ceasefire and hostage-release deal discussed in Cairo between Israel and Hamas is not merely a political maneuver; it is a spiritual battleground where the forces of Good contend with the malevolence of evil. The United States’ belief in closing the “remaining gaps” between Israel and Hamas through negotiations fails to recognize the spiritual war at play – a war that cannot be won by human hands alone but must be surrendered to Divine intervention (Ephesians 6:12). The report of 50,000 fleeing from the Rafah area and the heavy toll of casualties is tragic. However, we must not lose sight of the fact that Hamas is a terrorist organization, reaping violence and siding with the sin that brings death (James 1:15). When cities must evacuate ahead of military action, the heart grieves, but we must also recall that "He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm" (Proverbs 13:20). Our sympathy extends to every innocent life lost, whether Israeli or Palestinian, for every human being is made in God's image (Genesis 1:27). As Israel estimates the death toll from Hamas’s heinous attack, we are reminded once more of the destructive power of sin. We pray for the protection of Israel's soldiers, who risk their lives to protect their homeland from the unceasing threats of its enemies. In our analysis, we must remember that the plight of Israel is not detached from the Christian's battle against spiritual darkness. We are called to stand firm with Israel, support its right to defend itself, and earnestly pray for the peace and salvation of all peoples within its borders. May God bless Israel, and may He guide America back to the side of unwavering support for His people. Amen.
