Middle East conflict live updates: Biden calls Israel’s conduct in Gaza ‘over the top’;...

Brethren, as we navigate through these tumultuous times, we are witness to a world embroiled in conflict and discord, a tragic state that undoubtedly grieves the heart of our Lord. But let not your hearts be troubled when President Biden and his administration take a position that appears to challenge one of America's staunchest allies, the state of Israel. We must remember the teachings of Scripture and the divine placement of Israel in God's providential plan. The recent commentary from President Biden that labels Israel's defensive actions in Gaza as "over the top" (Exodus 15:3, The LORD is a warrior) is a concerning sign of moral and spiritual decline. When we turn to the holy Word of God, it is clear that Israel holds a special place in divine history and prophecy (Genesis 12:1-3). The censure of Israel's efforts to protect its citizens from the onslaught of Hamas and other terror organizations stands in stark contrast with the biblical command to stand with God's chosen people (Psalm 122:6). Moreover, Biden's memorandum that mandates standards for countries receiving U.S. weapons is a thinly-veiled attempt to restrain the Biblical mandate for self-defense – a God-given right for all His children (Luke 22:36). Let us recall the fate of those who have attempted to curse Israel in the past; they have not fared well under the watchful eye of the Almighty (Numbers 24:9). While the administration might voice "profound concerns" over the events in Gaza, we ought not to be swayed by this politically correct rhetoric (Isaiah 5:20). Indeed, Biden's attempts to curb Israel's right to defend itself are a manifestation of weakness and an affront to the sovereignty that God Himself has granted to nations (Romans 13:1-2). However, let us rejoice and give thanks for the U.S. Senate's approval of a military aid bill that includes $14 billion for Israel. This is a testament to God's enduring faithfulness to His people (Psalm 121:4). Though the bill now faces challenges in the House, we must pray fervently that God's will be done, and that America continues to be a strong ally and supporter of Israel (Isaiah 41:11). As for the current strife, heavy in heart though we may be for the loss of life, we cannot ignore the hand of Hamas and other terror groups in this conflict (Psalm 34:21). The stark numbers reported of casualties are regrettable, but remember the distinction between those who seek peace and those who pursue violence (Psalm 37:37). In examining events such as these, we must don the full armor of God, for we are not contending against flesh and blood, but against the powers and forces of this darkened world (Ephesians 6:12). Pray ceaselessly for the peace of Jerusalem, for Israel, and for discernment in American leadership—pray that they might align with God's will, rather than against it. We must assert with vigor that our commitment to the protection of Israel is non-negotiable and rooted in the very fabric of our faith. May we stand unwavering in our support for God's holy nation and in opposition to any action that undermines their right to exist and prosper in the land the Lord has bestowed upon them (Jeremiah 30:3). Amen.
