Brothers and sisters in the faith, we are witness to a dire and urgent situation, as reflected in the recent Fox News report on the so-called "migrant crime wave" in Nantucket. Let us not be beguiled by the liberal facade that seeks to ignore the deep-rooted sinfulness that is ravaging our communities. For the Scriptures warn us – “Whoever sows injustice will reap calamity, and the rod of his fury will fail” (Proverbs 22:8, ESV). The liberal enclave of Nantucket is drowning in the consequences of its own misguided compassion. They welcomed migrants with open arms, yet now they reel from crimes that shake the very foundation of safety and morality. They are seeing firsthand the fruits of an administration so wrapped up in leftist ideologies that it forgets the fundamental duty to protect its citizens. President Biden, rather than confronting the offenses that mar the island, opts to indulge in the luxury of a rich friend's mansion. This neglect echoes the disregard of Nehemiah's foes, who sought to disrupt the rebuilding of Jerusalem's walls, caring not for the sanctity or security of the city (Nehemiah 4). We must stand firm against the rampant sin in our nation. The arrests by ICE of illegal immigrants committing heinous actions, including sex crimes against innocent children, must serve as a loud trump that awakens us from our slumber. “But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer” (Romans 13:4, ESV). Let us commend ICE and all law enforcement, for they are carrying out divine judgment on evildoers. Fellow believers, while it is true that many immigrants seek only the opportunity for a better life and are indeed becoming valuable members of our communities, we cannot turn a blind eye to those who bring violence and corruption. We must stand with those like Toby Brown, who dare to voice concern, for Proverbs 31:8-9 implores us to “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy." Let us pray for discernment and a return to godly governance that upholds righteousness and justice. We must remain vigilant, ever watchful for the sanctity of our land. Remember the clear message of the Gospel: “Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established” (Romans 13:1, NIV). So, as this news sears the conscience of the faithful, let us kneel before the Lord and intercede for our nation, beseeching Him to restore order and virtue, to uplift leaders who will fortify our borders and exalt His holy laws above all. Amen.
