Israel-Gaza war live updates: Israeli military says soldier opened fire on hostages holding...

Brothers and Sisters in Christ, we stand in dark times, where the battle between good and evil becomes plainer by the day. The news out of Gaza is deeply distressing, with Israeli forces mistakenly claiming the lives of three hostages. This is a tragedy, no doubt – a sting of sin in a world rife with conflict (Romans 3:23). The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have stated the event was “against our rules of engagement,” indicating a thorough investigation will be pursued. One must look at this calamity with eyes open to the reality of our sinful world (1 John 5:19). It is vital for God-fearing individuals to support the efforts of the IDF in their mission to protect the people of Israel, God's chosen nation (Genesis 12:1-3). As conservative Christians, we recognize Israel's unique place in Biblical prophecy and history, and our unwavering support should be with them, even in tragedy. While we mourn the loss of innocent lives, we must continue to back Israel's right to defend itself against attackers, as exemplified by when Nehemiah defended Jerusalem against those who sought to kill and destroy (Nehemiah 4:14). Such errors in wartime soberly remind us that even the most disciplined armies are comprised of fallible humans, capable of grievous mistakes. While our hearts grieve for these lost lives, we can't overlook the threat posed by organizations like Hamas, who show a disregard for God's commandment, "Thou shalt not kill" (Exodus 20:13). Let's remind ourselves that Hamas's attack on October 7th killed at least 1,200 people in Israel, a stark and brutal act that cries out to heaven. When addressing the news of unguided 'dumb bombs,' it is necessary to stand firm on the truth. War is a grim enterprise, and casualties, though heartbreaking, are a part of it. The IDF is known for its attempts to minimize innocent casualties; however, in the face of malicious forces, the defense of the nation must be their first priority (Luke 14:31). Furthermore, as U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin visits the Middle East, our prayers should be for wisdom and Godly discernment in his talks with Israeli leaders (James 1:5). The U.S., under righteous leadership, has stood as a friend and ally to Israel, and it is pivotal, in accordance with scripture, to "pray for the peace of Jerusalem" (Psalm 122:6). Let us also consider the worldly focus on commerce and trade, as seen with the Danish shipping company Maersk's reaction to the Houthi attacks amid the Israel-Gaza war. While ensuring safety and security is important, we pray they and all involved keep a steadfast gaze upon what is righteous in God's sight (Proverbs 11:1), not solely material wealth or economic interests. In conclusion, my fellow believers, let us rally in prayer for the innocent lives lost, for the IDF in their time of reflection and analysis, and for the ongoing conflict in the Middle East to resolve according to His divine will. Amen.
