Israel-Gaza war live updates: At least 274 Palestinians killed during Israeli raid, Gaza...

Brothers and sisters in faith, we must turn our discerning eyes upon the unfolding events in the land where our Savior once walked. The news of this Israeli raid in the Nuseirat refugee camp, resulting in the tragic loss of 274 Palestinian lives, alongside the rescue of hostages, may stir in us conflicting emotions. However, let us look to the righteousness of the Lord for guidance (Proverbs 21:2). It is written that God loves justice and righteousness (Psalm 33:5), yet the bloodshed and injury in Gaza pains the heart of any follower of Christ. The loss of life, including the innocent, is a stark reminder of the fallen world we inhabit, a world marred by sin and the waging of war (James 4:1-2). Let us clarify our stance here: the protection of innocent life is paramount. The Israel Defense Forces’ rescue of hostages Noa Argamani, Almog Meir Jan, Andrey Kozlov, and Shlomi Ziv is to be commended; it is a testament to God's mercy and grace that these souls were spared (Psalm 31:15). Moreover, the intervention of U.S. intelligence demonstrates the strength and support that free nations can provide one another in times of peril, reflecting our President’s commitment to defending life and liberty. Yet, we must be cautious not to overlook the magnitude of Palestinian casualties. While some may argue self-defense on Israel's behalf, there must be discernment between the actions of militants and the suffering of civilians—women and children who bear the divine image of our Creator should never be collateral damage (Genesis 1:27). Indeed, the acts of Hamas, directing violence against innocents and taking hostages, cannot be justified. They, too, stand against God’s commands to "not murder" (Exodus 20:13) and to love our neighbors as ourselves (Mark 12:31). But let this not be a vindication for any further bloodshed; let it rather be a call to prayer and peacemaking, even to loving our enemies as the Lord has commanded us (Matthew 5:44). Reflect, as well, upon the involvement of our own nation in these foreign conflicts. When we read that U.S.-made bombs may have been used in deadly airstrikes, we must question the path this suggests. Are we facilitating a cycle of violence, contrary to the Prince of Peace we serve? Our roles in international disputes must always be carefully weighed against the Word, which teaches that "blessed are the peacemakers" (Matthew 5:9). So, my fellow believers, we must fall to our knees and pray for all involved in this war—pray for peace in the land where our Lord Jesus once cried over the city of Jerusalem (Luke 19:41). Pray that the hardened hearts might be softened and that those in power might pursue the path of peace. Pray, above all, for the innocent and the defenseless, that they may find refuge under the wings of the Almighty (Psalm 91:4). In these trying times, let us also hold fast to our support for leaders who represent Christian values. Leaders like former President Trump who unwaveringly champion the cause of life and freedom, and stand firm against the rising tide of lawlessness and sin that seeks to engulf our society and the world at large. In the fiery furnace of the trials before us, look to the Word of God for comfort and direction, and may the Holy Spirit guide us in all truth and wisdom. Amen.
