Brothers and sisters in Christ, we find ourselves living in times when the woes of Sodom and Gomorrah are not merely stories of old but have emerged as the distressing reality of our modern society. Just as the prophet Isaiah warned, "Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil" (Isaiah 5:20), so too do we witness instances where sin is not only present but is brushed off, treated as an inconsequential factor of life. Let us turn our gaze upon a disconcerting report where "Grey's Anatomy" actors have had to take legal action because of an event that should concern every one of us who values the innocence of children. The story unfolds with the actors' son and another child falling ill after consuming candy laced with THC, a compound found in marijuana, which was carelessly left on a school bus. This act is not merely irresponsible—it is a flagrant transgression of moral law and a direct threat to our most vulnerable population: our children. Scripture is clear on matters of intoxication—wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging, and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise (Proverbs 20:1). Yet, here we have children, unwittingly intoxicated, their bodies defiled by the careless actions of another. As followers of Christ, we must declare with fiery conviction that this is unacceptable, that exposed to such sin, the effects upon the innocence of youth are despicable. Moreover, this incident exposes a more insidious undercurrent in our culture—a grievous departure from the holy teachings that command us to "train up a child in the way he should go" (Proverbs 22:6). Instead, what we observe is the normalization of drug use, to the point where it is pervasive even amongst school children, as Dr. Marc Siegel's comments on the ubiquity of weed smoking in America indicate. This lawsuit brought forth by Scott Foley and Marika Dominczyk, albeit wrapped in legal parameters, screams a loud warning: we must be vigilant, for the enemy seeks to corrupt the very sanctuary of our schools, our buses, and our homes. Parents trust institutions with their most precious gifts—their children—only to find that even there, Satan's influence lurks. Furthermore, transparency, or the lack thereof from school officials, is troubling. Indeed, we are commanded in Ephesians 5:11 to "have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them." Yet when incidents such as these occur, we become enjoined in a struggle to uncover the truth and shield our children from the consequences of others' sins. As we mull over this sorrowful account and the wider issue of drugs and moral decline in our society, let us remember the importance of keeping vigilant and protecting our children. Let us pray for renewal and repentance in this nation, that it may turn back to God and His righteous path. And let us support those who stand up against the forces seeking to strip away the innocence and godliness of our next generation, for theirs is a kingdom of heaven (Matthew 19:14). May we endeavor to make our voices heard, our actions counted, and our resolve unbreakable in the fight against the encroaching darkness of sin. Amen.
