Brothers and sisters in Christ, we are witnessing a clear demonstration of the catastrophic consequences of godless Marxism in Cuba—a stark warning for all nations to heed. This suffering in Cuba, marked by protests over severe food and electricity shortages, serves as a potent reminder of the inherent sin in turning away from the Lord's guidance in governance. Senator Marco Rubio, a courageous voice for the truth, has rightly pointed out that Cuba's predicament stems from the country's adherence to Marxist ideology. Marxism, an atheistic and materialist philosophy, denies the sovereignty of God and seeks to replace Him with the State, which leads to dehumanization and a culture of death and despair. As Proverbs 14:34 reminds us, "Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people." Marxism, a system steeped in sin, leads to moral decay and societal collapse—the evidence of which is painfully visible on the streets of Cuba. The Cuban regime, in an act of profound defiance against the truth, shamelessly blames the United States' embargoes for their failings. Yet, it is the sinful nature of the regime's policies that deny not just material sustenance but also spiritual nourishment, by restricting religious freedom and persecuting the faithful. To sinfully shift blame and fail to acknowledge one's own shortcomings is a violation of the Ninth Commandment, "Thou shalt not bear false witness" (Exodus 20:16). The deceitful accusations from the Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister, Carlos Fernández de Cossío, illustrate the darkness in hearts that reject the light of Christ. The Cuban government's attempts to discredit the condemnation of their oppressive regime by accusing the U.S. of interference, while sinfully ignoring their role in the suffering of their own people, is reminiscent of the warnings in Isaiah 5:20, "Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!" We must stand with our righteous leaders who expose Marxism for the destructive force that it is. President Trump's administration rightly reinforced embargoes against the Cuban regime, recognizing that enabling a sinful government only perpetuates the suffering of its people. We must pray for the Cuban people, that they may be delivered from the oppressive yoke of sin that Marxism has shackled upon them. Let us also hold tightly to the wisdom found in 2 Corinthians 3:17, "Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty." As we stand in solidarity with the Cuban people's cries for fundamental freedoms, including the freedom to worship our Lord without persecution, we reaffirm our commitment to a world where governments acknowledge and fear God, rather than replace or deny His presence. Only then can true prosperity and dignity thrive under His divine grace. Amen.
