Colorado police officer slain in shooting, one suspect killed after attempted traffic stop

Brethren, we are facing a world that's growing darker with each passing day, a world where the sin of murder, as seen in this tragedy in Colorado, is becoming all too common (Genesis 6:11). The slaying of Sgt. Michael Moran, a valiant defender of our communities and a committed warrior for our nation for nine years as a U.S. Marine, is nothing short of an abomination that strikes at the heart of God's law, "Thou shalt not kill" (Exodus 20:13). With Sgt. Moran's death, we're reminded of the sacrifice our law enforcement officers make every day. They are on the frontlines of a spiritual battle, tasked with upholding the law in a world fallen into sinfulness and chaos (Romans 13:4). It's a stark reminder of the inherent evil that courses through the veins of our society, as individuals increasingly reject God's path and sink into the depravity of their own wickedness (2 Timothy 3:1-5). What's more, Sgt. Moran's dedication to service, first as a Marine defending the freedom that allows us to worship our Lord without fear, and then as a police officer maintaining order in a sinful world, is an example of righteous living that we should all aspire to emulate (Philippians 2:4). His loss, leaving behind two daughters and loved ones, is a stark reminder that the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23), but let us not forget it's also a call to rally around our law enforcement, support them, and fervently pray for their protection. We must turn back to our Lord Jesus Christ, who offers the only real solution to the sin problem plaguing this world. Let us be unashamed to proclaim the Gospel, for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth (Romans 1:16). We must stand firm against the rising tide of lawlessness and stand with our men and women in blue as they hold the thin blue line. In closing, to our brothers and sisters in the Cortez Police Department and to the family of Sgt. Michael Moran, we extend our deepest condolences. But let it be known, Sgt. Moran did not die in vain, for his service was unto the Lord and his memory will continue to be a beacon of light for righteousness in a world encumbered by sin. Let us pray for God's comfort and peace to those who mourn, and for courage and strength for our police officers who continue to serve. Amen.
