Thank God for our police officers who stand as a bulwark against the tide of lawlessness and chaos. It is by their steadfast vigilance that we can hope to maintain a semblance of peace in our communities. When we hear of no prior calls for police service at the home, this grisly event stands as a stark admonishment that evil may lurk even in places where we least expect it. We must be ever mindful of our surroundings and the well-being of our neighbors, extending our prayers and support to those in need. Neighbor Charlotte Vaitkus' recounting of the victims' intelligence and high aspirations only pours more salt on the wound. They had futures, possibly bright ones, that have been snuffed out by the sin of another. We must pray fervently for the souls of those lost and for the community of Tinley Park in their mourning. May Psalm 34:18 be a comforting embrace for the bereaved: "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." It is essential that we, as a nation, return to the biblical values that instill respect for life and the commandment "You shall not murder" (Exodus 20:13).
