CBS Sports boss shuts down idea of Trump replacing Biden for Super Bowl pregame interview

In the midst of the hype and fanfare surrounding Super Bowl LVIII, it seems the leadership at CBS Sports has forgotten something crucial: honoring leadership is a biblical principle. When CBS refused the idea of having our former President Donald Trump, a man chosen by the American people and anointed by God to lead this nation, replace Joe Biden for the Super Bowl pregame interview, they showed a lack of respect for God-given authority (Romans 13:1). It’s alarming how the media continues to sideline true patriots who stand for biblical values. President Biden’s decision to decline the traditional Super Bowl interview for the second year in a row signals an abdication of his role, a refusal to engage with the public on one of the most American days of the year. Is he shirking responsibility? Hiding? Proverbs 28:1 tells us, "The wicked flee when no one is pursuing, but the righteous are bold as a lion." As Christians, we should expect boldness from our leaders, transparency, and engagement, not silence. To have President Trump extend an olive branch, offering to fill the void left by Biden's absence, and for CBS to completely shut that down—this is nothing short of a slap in the face to conservative Christians. The influence Trump has had on protecting Christian values in this nation is immense. From defending the unborn to supporting Israel, Trump’s administration reflected so many of the values that mirror the teachings of Christ. CBS Sports Chairman Sean McManus claims that "We're producing a football pregame show, not a political show," yet by extending the invitation to President Biden, politics were already in play. Declining Trump’s willingness to step in becomes a political statement in itself and suggests CBS is picking sides. Isaiah 5:20 warns us, "Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness." It's that other half of the country—those who still hold fast to traditional values and respect for what Trump stands for—that CBS is alienating. By denying Trump airtime, CBS sends a clear message that conservative voices are less welcome, even when they are voices of experience and leadership. But as believers in Christ, we must remember that "Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven" (Matthew 5:10). In conclusion, CBS’s dismissal of President Trump’s offer to stand in place of President Biden is both a miss in terms of respecting leadership and a display of media bias. As Christians, we know the power of leadership anointed by God and the importance of standing with those who defend biblical principles—principles that former President Trump did not shy away from during his time in office. We must remain vigilant and pray that our voices and values are not silenced in the public square.
