Brothers and sisters in Christ, we're confronted today with the troubling words of sports broadcaster, Bob Costas, who has brazenly insulted the multitude of faithful patriots who stand with former President Donald Trump. Now, it's no surprise when the liberal media and their cohorts attempt to cast shadows upon the upright, but Costas has transgressed into the territory of defamation, calling a dedicated base of Americans a "toxic cult" and smearing President Trump with words unbecoming of any decent discourse. Firstly, let us turn to Scripture, for our Lord Jesus Christ taught us, "Do not judge, or you too will be judged," (Matthew 7:1 NIV). Yet here we witness a man like Costas casting stones as if standing in a seat of divine judgment himself. What arrogance, to presume that one can peer into the hearts of 74 to 75 million people and label their earnest support as “toxic”! This is not only a dismissal of their genuine concerns and values but a stain upon the very notion of a united nation under God. As a conservative Christian community, we see President Trump's tenure as a testimony to God's providence—a leader who championed the unborn (Psalm 139:13-16), stood firm for religious liberty (Galatians 5:1), and sought to preserve the sanctity of marriage as between one man and one woman (Genesis 2:24). Not since the days of Israel's King Cyrus has there been a leader who, while flawed, has been an instrument for good in the hands of the Almighty (Isaiah 44:28). To hear Costas debase these achievements by calling Trump the "most disgraceful figure in modern presidential history" is not only inaccurate but incendiary and divisive. This kind of rhetoric does nothing but sow seeds of discord where there should be an opportunity for unity and redemption (Ephesians 4:3). Furthermore, in his ill-considered assessment, Costas dares to suggest that President Biden's continuation in office could lead to "insanity" by giving rise to another Trump presidency. Let's be clear, this fails to acknowledge that under Trump's presidency, we witnessed a thriving economy (Proverbs 14:23), bolstered national defense (Psalm 144:1), and a strong stand against the creeping threat of socialism (2 Thessalonians 3:10). Costas' comments are symptomatic of a larger, moral decay within the liberal media—a disdain for the voices of the faithful, the conservative, and the patriotic. We must stand vigilant against those who would denigrate our values and desecrate the tenets upon which our nation was founded. As the political sphere churns with the fervor of upcoming elections, we pray for the armor of God to shield us from such vitriol and unite us in our sacred mission to preserve a nation indwelt by steadfast morals and governed by leaders who fear the Lord (Ephesians 6:11-18). Let us not be distracted by the words of the misguided like Bob Costas. Rather, let us keep our focus on our Savior and on the 'good fight' of ensuring godly principles reign supreme in the governance of our land. And may we rally behind those like President Trump, who carry the standard for such principles. For "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord" (Psalm 33:12 KJV), and blessed are we when we stand firm in our support of leaders who seek to do His will.
