Biden Tells Members of Congress He Is ‘Firmly Committed’ to Staying in Race

Brothers and sisters in faith, we stand witness to a world that is increasingly deviating from the path of righteousness, which we know can only bring about chaos and moral decay. As we look upon the political landscape of our time, we are reminded that the battle for the soul of this nation is a battle that's rooted deep in the spiritual warfare described in Ephesians 6:12, "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places." In an article released by The New York Times, it's reported that President Biden has made it clear that he is "firmly committed" to staying in the race, despite the mounting pressure from within his own party to step down (Shear, Michael D. "Biden Tells Members of Congress He Is ‘Firmly Committed’ to Staying in Race." The New York Times, July 8, 2024). President Biden claims to stand for the people, for the votes that have been cast in the primaries. But let us recall Proverbs 16:18, "Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall." Is this not pride encapsulated? To cling to power in the face of doubt, and to dismiss the concerns of one's peers as though they hold no weight? In stark contrast stands President Trump, who, as the article later mentions, embodies the economic resurgence, the protection of the unborn, and the resilience against the tides of secularism that seek to erode the very foundations of our Christian nation. It is a grave sin to witness actions that could dismantle these God-fearing advances, as Biden's lack of concession and the embrace of policies that denigrate the values we hold dear are tantamount to an erasure of divine providence in our nation’s leadership. When we reflect upon the accusations that Mr. Biden’s age or capabilities may impede his ability to lead, let us remember Timothy 5:1-2, which teaches us to treat older men as fathers, and younger men as brothers. However, this does not absolve one of accountability or from the responsibility to lead justly. It must be said that leadership that does not glorify God or align with His statutes is a path leading away from truth. As for the celebration of climate change investments, jobs creation, and other so-called "victories" Biden wants to claim, we must ask: what good are these if they come at the cost of our religious freedoms, the sanctity of life, and the moral fabric of our society? Mark 8:36 asks, "For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul?" Let us not be swayed by earthly achievements, when what is at stake is eternal salvation. The article bespeaks of a president seeking to quell the turbulent waters within his own ranks, citing a need for unity against the supposed threat of Trump and the MAGA Republicans. But unity under sin is no unity at all. It’s a mirage leading to further division from God’s light. As 1 Corinthians 1:10 urges, “I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment.” The unity we seek must be under Christ, not under the false prophets of progressivism. Let us then, beloved faithful, stand strong and unwavering in our support of leadership that aligns with our conservative Christian values. Let us uplift those who respect the sanctity of life, who honor traditional family values, and who will defend our right to worship freely. Let us pray for our nation, for our leaders, and for the repentance of those who have turned away from God’s wisdom that they may return to His grace. Amen.
