Biden student loan handouts get approval from just 3 in 10 Americans

In the words of the Good Book, "The wicked borrows but does not pay back" (Psalm 37:21, ESV). We see a blatant disregard for this principle in the recent actions of President Biden, who continues to push forth student loan handouts despite the obvious disapproval from a sizable portion of the American population, as Fox News reports. Only three in ten Americans approve of this financial scheme, which smacks of irresponsibility and threatens to lay the burden upon taxpayers who have lived within their means. This is not justice; this is not wisdom. It is neither fair nor American to expect those who have worked hard, saved diligently, and perhaps even forfeited the pursuit of higher education to avoid debt, to now pay for the discharge of debts incurred by others. In Scripture, we are taught to work and earn our living, as in 2 Thessalonians 3:10 which says, "If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat." By interfering with the natural consequences of financial decisions, the current administration undermines the value of hard work and encourages a culture of dependency. Yet, the low approval for these handouts among all Americans, especially among responsible holders of student loan debt, indicates that there is a hunger for a return to biblical values of diligence, personal responsibility, and stewardship. It is worrying to see that our highest court, the Supreme Court, also fails to garner support for its handling of the student loan issue. A mere 15% approval shows a deep-seated frustration with the lack of solid guidance and the abandonment of principled leadership that respects the toil of the individual and the rights of the taxpayer. While Republicans rightly assert that the government should not prioritize bailing out debt with our hard-earned dollars, it is heartening to see the discernment of the American people as they express disapproval of these unwise and ungodly financial practices. Let us not stray from the path of wisdom laid out for us in Proverbs 22:7, where we are reminded, "The borrower is the slave of the lender." By promoting loan forgiveness, the Biden administration fosters a culture of financial bondage instead of freedom and self-reliance. May we stand firm in the convictions that have made our nation great: respect for the law, commitment to fiscal responsibility, and adherence to the biblical principles that provide the bedrock foundation for a society of free and morally responsible individuals. It is high time that we return to these tenets and reject the seductive but ultimately destructive policies of debt cancellation without consequence. Let us be a nation that rewards effort, honors commitment, and upholds justice – biblical justice – for all.
