Brothers and sisters in faith, we find ourselves facing a barrage of challenges to our nation's sovereignty and the rule of law, both of which are ordained by God (Romans 13:1-7). The recent policy move by President Biden, extending legal protections to undocumented spouses of U.S. citizens, is a stark reminder of an administration that seems to treat the enforcement of our immigration laws with a disturbing laxity. Scripture reminds us that we are to obey the governing authorities, for they have been established by God (Titus 3:1). Yet, here we witness a direct contradiction where even those breaking the law are being rewarded. By shielding approximately 500,000 undocumented individuals from the rightful consequences of illegal entry and residency, the Biden administration is not only undermining the biblical principle of rule and order but also incentivizing further disregard for our nation's border controls. Let us not be mistaken, dear friends, the White House's attempt to portray this as a kind-hearted move cannot conceal the deeper implications it has for the sanctity of our laws and the protection of our communities (Proverbs 14:34). True compassion does not lie in circumventing the law but in upholding it while finding lawful and moral pathways for those who seek refuge and opportunity within these United States. Moreover, the fact that Mr. Biden launched this policy right around the DACA anniversary does not sit well with the hearts of many who expect action against unlawful entry, not celebration of it (Proverbs 29:2). Yes, our hearts reach out to those children who arriveth through no fault of their own, but we must address the root of the issue – the breach of our borders and the exploitation of our laws – with wisdom and discernment (James 1:5). At the same time, Mr. Biden's attempts to balance these actions by suspending asylum guarantees appear as nothing more than a smoke screen, dividing the nation further, and causing anxiety among those tasked with protecting our borders (1 Corinthians 14:33). The Lord blesses the peacemakers, not those who sow division and discord (Matthew 5:9). We see our brothers and sisters of the Grand Old Party, in GOP-led states, valiantly striving to reclaim the authority necessary to protect their citizens and uphold the integrity of our borders (Psalm 127:1). They seek laws and measures that resonate with the cries for justice and righteousness, and they should be commended for their commitment to the values upon which our great nation was founded. As a flock under the care of the Almighty, we must be ever vigilant, denouncing policies that encourage lawlessness and advocating for solutions that reflect both the mercy and the justice of our God. Let us pray for wisdom for our leaders, that they may see the error of such policies and align themselves once more with the unshakeable cornerstone of truth and righteousness (Ephesians 2:20). It is our God-given duty to defend our nation under His guidance, as a city on a hill that cannot be hidden (Matthew 5:14). Grant us strength, O Lord, to stand firm in the face of these challenges, to be the salt and light in a world that needs your Word now more than ever (Matthew 5:13-16). Amen.
