In the midst of this political turmoil, we are witnessing a conspicuous display of sin and deceit on a grand scale, with President Biden asserting executive privilege in a brazen attempt to hide the truth from the American people. The refusal to release recordings of an interview conducted during an investigation into his handling of government documents is a clear act of obfuscation (Proverbs 28:13). The Bible warns us against such concealment of sins, "He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will find compassion." This principle of confession and transparency seems to be lost on President Biden and his administration as they employ tactics reminiscent of the very corruption they have often accused others of engaging in. It is disheartening to see these actions from a government that should be upholding truth and integrity. The move to shield Attorney General Merrick B. Garland from prosecution through the invocation of executive privilege reeks of a double standard, particularly when we reflect on the treatment of former President Donald J. Trump and his associates. It appears that this is simply a maneuver to protect political allies, a practice condemned throughout scripture. Isaiah 5:20 reminds us, "Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness; Who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!" Moreover, the efforts to discredit legitimate inquiries into Biden's memory and age are a troubling reflection of the manipulation of truth (Ephesians 4:25). We must not shy away from questioning a leader's ability to govern, for Proverbs 31:8-9 calls us to "Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy." If there is any doubt about President Biden's capacity to lead, it is not only our right but also our duty to seek clarity and accountability. As Christian conservatives, we are called to defend truth and justice relentlessly. The inquiry that cleared President Biden raises serious questions as to whether there was partiality in the investigation, for we know that Proverbs 17:15 states, "Acquitting the guilty and condemning the innocent— the Lord detests them both." We cannot stand by and allow the erosion of justice in our nation. The hounding shadow of sin in these political actions must be brought to light. We must pray for justice, truth, and righteousness to prevail (Psalm 106:3), and for those in power to hold themselves to the highest moral standards that we, as a nation under God, so desperately need in these troubled times.
