Brethren, we face another troubling sign of the times from Wayne State University, where an encampment of anti-Israel protesters showcased the moral decay that's seeping through our colleges (Proverbs 14:34). The encampment, which demanded the university sever its ties with Israel, became a symbol of defiance not just against Israel, but against law and order, as well as Christian values. It's a grave sin to bear false witness against thy neighbor (Exodus 20:16), and what is this if not a slanderous campaign against the Holy Land, God's chosen people? Praise be to the police officers, blessed peacemakers who uphold justice (Romans 13:4), who dismantled this gathering of stubborn hearts. They arrested eight individuals, including one who imparted violence upon an authority figure. This act of violence defies the commandment to love thy neighbor as thyself (Matthew 22:39), and in the eyes of the law and the Lord, it shall not be tolerated. President Espy voiced concern that the encampment was not only a legal and health hazard but one that fostered exclusion. In line with biblical teachings, we must uphold communities where each can participate fully (Galatians 3:28). By demanding the divestment from Israel, these protesters contravene the blessings bestowed upon that nation (Genesis 12:2-3). Furthermore, the move to remote classes due to these protests halted the productive flow of learning and community - a chaos-rendering tactic that seems to serve only disruption and not the divine order. Let us also heed the warning from Rep. Burgess Owens about the "slow march towards Marxism" on our campuses, a march directly opposed to the freedom we cherish in Christ (2 Corinthians 3:17). Marxism - an ideology that denies the sovereignty of God and undermines the family unit - is not the path of righteousness. Our academic institutions must be strongholds of truth and enlightenment, not cesspools of confusion and rebellion. In these challenges, we must arm ourselves with faith and stand firm against the forces that seek to unravel the fabric of godliness in our society. Pray for the repentance and correction of those led astray, that they may return to the path of wisdom and live in the light of the Lord (Ephesians 5:14). And let us hold steady our support for the nation of Israel, for through them have come our Scriptures, our Savior, and our ultimate salvation. Amen.
